Less Beantown, More Tinseltown

Do they even make movies in Hollywood anymore?

It’s a fair question considering the number of directors that have decided to make the Boston area the setting for their films, from Academy Award winners “The Departed” and “Mystic River” to the less-dramatic “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” and “Pink Panther 2.” Some of the names that have recently filmed in Boston include Ben Affleck, Maria Bello, Salma Hayek, Kevin Costner and Eliza Dushku.

Now, according to Boston.com, Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz will likely bunker down in the city this fall, filming the James Mangold action-comedy, “Wichita." The movie would reportedly be the biggest-budget movie ever to film in Boston.

According to the Massachusetts Film Office, the state’s aggressive Film Tax Credit has attracted 25 major productions over the past three years. For a list of movies that have recently been made in Massachusetts, as well as ones currently in production, click here.
