Beckett Bowl To Take Place Sept. 10

Follow me on:

Red Sox ace Josh Beckett may have taken one step closer to his first Cy Young Award with last night’s performance (seven innings, three hits, two walks, six strikeouts) against the Detroit Tigers, good enough for his league-leading 13th win of the season. That’s all good, but can the man throw strikes?

On the mound, sure, we all know that. But Beckett and other celebrities will have their chance to toss them in the bowling lane next month when the third-annual Beckett Bowl takes place at Lucky Strike Lanes on Ipswich St. Since its inception in 2007, this fundraising effort, organized by the Josh Beckett Foundation, has raised more than $500,000 to benefit Children’s Hospital Boston. Celebrities that have attended this event in the past include Red Sox teammate David Ortiz, Celtics star Paul Pierce, Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss, and “Entourage” star Adrian Grenier.

Tickets for the Sept. 10 event, as well as the after-party taking place at the House of Blues can be purchased via ticketmaster.com or by calling 617-338-2766. Tickets to attend the Beckett Bowl are $250. After-party tickets are $45. Local companies and individuals are also invited to sponsor four-person bowling teams.

It goes without saying that this is a great opportunity to aid a worthy cause while rubbing elbows with some of the city’s top athletes and celebrities. The event begins at 6 p.m. with a red carpet autograph session. Beckett can’t sign “2009 Cy Young Award winner” just yet, but he might be able to start when awards are handed out in November.
