According to a report released this week by the Brookings Institution, domestic flights in the Boston area arrive as scheduled only 75 percent of the time, one of the worst on-time performances in the country.
With an average delay of 61.3 minutes, Boston (encompassing of Logan International Airport and Manchester-Boston Regional Airport in New Hampshire) trailed only Atlanta, Philadelphia, and New York in the extensive study of air travel trends.
But how much of that is the Massport Authority's fault? Surely, when you're running flights in a region that also boasts two of the top three airports with late flight arrivals, there are some things out of your control. That's the point of Massport spokesperson Matthew Brelis, who told Boston.com, "Flights to and from our most popular destinations must pass through the New York airspace, the most congested and delayed airspace in the country."
It is just another reason why, when flying out of Logan, to do everything in your power to fly early morning, when the planes are already there and there is little risk of being forced to wait for one to arrive from another location.
