Massachusetts is encouraging commuters to leave the car at home and bike to work next week, when the state celebrates its annual Bay State Bike Week, sponsored by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and the Massachusetts Bicycle Coalition.
The week is highlighted by a number of state-wide activities, including the MassCommuter Challenge, a friendly competition in which employees, students, and others pledge to bike for even a portion of their daily commutes or errands. Last year, local bikers hit 125,000 miles during the week. Click here to register.
The week culminates in Boston with the first of this year's Bike Fridays. Begin in one of eight Boston neighborhoods at 6:45 a.m. for a guided convoy to City Hall Plaza, where a free breakfast courtesy of Boloco awaits you, in addition to a bike expo. Bike Fridays will also occur one Friday in each of June, July, and August.
