Despite a report this morning from the Boston Herald that indicated otherwise, no new deal appears to be imminent for New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, with the 2010 NFL season just days away.
The Herald reported today that a three-year, $58 million dollar contract for Brady was likely to be completed within the next 24 hours. Yet no sooner did that report surface did ESPN's Adam Schefter dispute those claims, tweeting, "Aware of Brady-contract talk. But two knowledgeable people say reports of deal being in place are "inaccurate" and 'wrong'. We'll see."
So, there's that.
The Patriots quarterback is entering the final season of his current deal, and reports have indicated that he would rather not negotiate with the team once the season begins. New England kicks off its 2010 campaign Sunday in Foxboro against the Cincinatti Bengals.
In other Patriots contract news, lineman Logan Mankins remains in a holdout, and Randy Moss told CBS Sports that he feels "unwanted" in New England despite the fact that he will be the team's highest-paid player in 2010.
The games can't come soon enough, can they?
It says here Brady signs a new deal before Sunday, Mankins plays for the team at some point this season, and that Moss will enter the season without an extension in place. Remember what he did the last time he was in a contract year? I'll bet the Patriots don't forget either.
