Congratulations, Boston. You're wicked smaht.
Of course, we knew that already. But last month's survey by The Daily Beast confirms it. By utilizing criteria including education, population, and book sales, Boston handily beat out its closets competitors, Hartford, Conn., San Francisco, and Raleigh-Durham, to be named America's Smartest City. Boston finished third last year behind San Francisco and Raleigh-Durham.
The other New England city that made the list was Providence, finishing 30th. Cities had to boast a population of 1 million or more in order to be considered.
The Daily Beast was founded by former Vanity Fair and The New Yorker editor Tina Brown in 1998.
