If you're interested in running the 2014 Boston Marathon as part of the One Fund's Charity Team, you have a (very) short window to get your application in: Applications to be one of the Fund's 50 charity runners are due by 5 p.m. EST on Tuesday, January 7. Recipients will not only represent the One Fund in the race itself, they will also be expected to raise funds for the organization as part of their team participation.
The Charity Team will be organized and administered in partnership with Marathon Sports, Inc. Marathon Sports will be involved in selecting the 50 runners, designing and scheduling training activities, and providing other coaching services leading up to the Marathon.
As the One Fund anticipates an "overwhelming amount of interest" in the Charity Team, be prepared to put your best foot forward (pun fully intended) in your application. Questions include "Do you have a personal connection with One Fund Boston?" as well as "Why would you like to run for One Fund Boston?" You should also be prepared to discuss your fundraising planning and anticipated donation amounts in thorough detail, as well as your running/athletic training experience. Similar to the Boston Athletic Association's special bib recipients, unique and specific qualities may be the difference between getting selected or being turned down, so be thorough, detailed, and personal in your application.
In the interest of efficiency (and also in giving the selected runners enough time to train), the winners will be notified by January 10.
