The National Day of Mourning
Since 1970, a growing group of Native Americans and their supporters have gathered on Thanksgiving Day in Plymouth, Mass., at the top of Coles Hill, overlooking Plymouth Rock, for the "National Day of Mourning" protest. In addition to protesting Thanksgiving and the suppressed speech of Wampanoag leader Frank B. (Wamsutta) James in 1970, Native Americans use this day to honor their ancestors and to draw attention to current issues. The Boston Molasses Flood
The 1919 Molasses Flood in Boston's North End was one of the most bizarre and tragic events in Massachusetts history. A tidal wave of molasses swept through the streets destroying everything and everyone in its path. |
