A Guide to Spookyworld

Frights and Fears Just North of Boston

By

Of all the haunted attractions that descend upon the New England area each Halloween season, perhaps none is more popular than SpookyWorld, the annual, haunted event which has seen a variety of locales over the years. In 2012, SpookyWorld presents “Nightmare New England” in Litchfield, N.H. In 2011, the theme park was set up at Fenway Park, following the Red Sox’ epic collapse down the stretch, creating an endless stream of remarks about how “frightening” Fenway really was that fall.

The attraction is a mix of frightening destinations featuring a host of special events and scary characters sure to chill the soul of even the most hardened visitor. Here’s what you need to know when planning your trip.

When: SpookyWorld runs weekends, Columbus Day, some Thursdays in late October, and, of course, on Halloween Wednesday from Sept. 28-Nov. 3. Haunted attractions open each evening at 8, but VIP ticket holders can enjoy unlimited batting cages, go-karts, and mini-golf beginning at 3 p.m. and on weekends and Columbus Day at noon. Ticket booth sales close at 11 p.m. on weekends, 10 p.m. otherwise. Open rain or shine on Fridays and Saturdays, weather permitting on all other days. A decision to close due to inclement weather will be made by 3 p.m. on those days.

Directions: From Boston, take I-93 North to Exit 5, Route 28 in Londonderry, N.H. Turn left onto Route 128 South, Mammoth Road, then drive 1.4 miles before turning right onto Litchfield Road, then continuing on Robert Hall Road and Corning St. Turn left onto 3A South, Charles Bancroft Highway. After 1.2 miles, turn right, and you will reach the destination for SpookyWorld, 454 Charles Bancroft Highway in Litchfield for GPS purposes. M

Attractions: Among some of the many attractions this year at SpookyWorld:

Raven’s Claw, the Resurrection: A deep walk into the woods surrounded by crypts and tombstones.

The Colony: A walk along the river where guests will come into contact with a family long-hidden by darkness.

House of Eternal Darkness: No light, no way to see where you are going. Rely on every other sense but sight to make it through this nightmare.

Freak Show in 3D: Navigate your way through a group of freaks, “evil clowns” and other zombies.

Lights Out Night: This is the special farewell this year to SpookyWorld, when the attraction tosses a special party on Nov. 3 with the sound turned way up, and a navigation via little but glowstick. Tickets for the evening are $34.99 general admission, $59.99 VIP tickets.
