Boston's Harborfest kicks off on June 28.

Summer in the city brings with it a myriad of events, and June is annually one of the most vibrant months in the city of Boston, where American history shines in preparation of Independence Day. From the popular Scooper Bowl to the beginning of Boston’s annual Fourth of July festivities, June annually kicks off the tourist season, with plenty to see, do, and taste.

  • AIDS Walk Boston
    June 3, 2012

    For the 27th straight year, the AIDS walk takes place on the first Sunday of June to help raise funds for the AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts.
  • Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl
    June 5-7, 2012, Noon-8 p.m., $10 adults, $5 children ages 3-9

    The ultra-popular ice cream festival returns to City Hall Plaza with dozens of flavors - courtesy Baskin and Robbins, Ben and Jerry's, Edy's, and more - on hand. Proceeds benefit the Jimmy Fund's cancer research.
  • Jimmy NSTAR Walk for Children’s Hospital

    Sign up to walk and help raise some of the event’s $1.6 fundraising goal. Since 2003, NSTAR has raised almost $10 million for the hospital’s patient care. A seven-mile walk begins at 11 a.m.; a two-mile walk gets underway at Noon.

    Starship kicks off the annual summer series at the Hatch Shell, which will also see Burton Cummings (formerly of The Guess Who) and Farner (formerly of Grand Funk Railroad, July 21) and Rick Springfield (Aug. 4) this season. Shows take place at the Hatch Shell and are rain or shine.

    Boston's annual 4th of July, six-day celebration kicks off with an opening ceremony on June 29, leading up to one of the country's best fireworks displays and the ever-popular tradition of the "Chowderfest."

    The Tall Ships return to Boston Harbor in 2012, part of OpSail 2012. Many of the ships will be available for viewing at Fish Pier.
