Guide Review - Kowloon Restaurant Review

Kowloon is a restaurant that makes an immediate impression. Whether that impression is good or bad is almost entirely dependent on the type of person you are. If, for example, you'd get a kick out of a Tiki-themed dining room with rainbow-lit indoor fountains and palm trees, then Kowloon is the place for you.

The wildly popular Asian restaurant has been owned and operated by the Wong family since it opened in 1950. Something of a Saugus landmark, Kowloon offers Cantonese, Szechuan, Sushi, Polynesian, and Thai cuisines in various themed dining rooms and lounges. By far the most popular and fun is the Tiki Lagoon (it's the one with the fountains and palm trees), but you can also try the Volcano Bay Room, Thai Grille, Luau Room, Hong Kong Lounge, and Mandarin Room. As one diner put it, "It's like a casino without the gambling."

Kowloon’s menu is so extensive it borders on daunting, but the portions are generous and the food is tasty and reasonably priced. There are plenty of vegetarian options, and various levels of spiciness to choose from, so the odds are in your favor that everyone in your party will find something they like. Kowloon also offers an assortment of delicious mixed drinks.

Kowloon has a few drawbacks. While it is relatively easy to get to by car, it is not easily accessible by public transportation. And while there is plenty of parking, the restaurant’s popularity means the lobby can be a noisy, claustrophobic affair on busy nights.
