Top 10 Boston Comic Book Shops

At first glance, comic book fans may feel a bit disappointed in Boston’s offerings. But like a lot of things in the Hub it’s all about knowing where to look. Newbury Comics sounds promising, and it’s a great store, but it doesn’t actually carry many comic books. But never fear! Here is a list of ten places for Bostonians to get a quick comic book fix.

1. New England Comics

Publisher of the popular Tick comic books, New England Comics stocks a wide range of new comics, back issues, graphic novels, action figures, statues, posters, videos, and DVDs. They have additional locations in Quincy, Allston, Brookline, Brockton, Malden, and Norwood.

2. Comicazi

Comicazi and its Arlington branch Comicazi II offer tens of thousands of comic books ranging from Archie to Spiderman, mainstream and obscure. They also carry graphic novels, collectibles, supplies, and more.

3. Magic Dragon Comics

Magic Dragon Comics has a pretty sparse website, but this Arlington shop carries comic books, graphic novels, trading cards, gaming supplies, action figures, collectibles, memorabilia, and more.

4. Comicopia

Comicopia’s proud motto is "Highbrow, lowbrow...and everything in between." The popular Boston store carries thousands of trade paperbacks, as well as a wide variety of comic books, card games, posters, T-shirts, and other related items.

5. Million Year Picnic

This basement-level shop in Harvard Square is an area favorite that’s been around for about thirty years. Million Year Picnic stocks everything from the classic Marvel and DC selections to adult comics, graphic novels, trade paperbacks, independent works, T-shirts and more.

6. The Outer Limits

Opened in 1983, the Outer Limits is something of a Waltham institution, offering both new and gold and silver age comics, as well as trade paperbacks, graphic novels, toys, collectibles, lunch boxes, card games, sci-fi and vintage pop culture merchandise.

7. The Comic Stop

The Comic Stop sells new and back issue comic books, graphic novels, action figures, and the Magic: The Gathering collectible card game. The store also hosts a monthly Magic tournament.

8. Rabbit Valley

This online comic shop based in Waltham specializes in comic books, fanzines, collectibles, artwork, and other materials targeted specifically at the Furry community. Rabbit Valley ® Comics publishes several small press titles, including Circles, about a group of gay Bostonians.

9. Webhead Enterprises

Established in 1989, Webhead Enterprises stocks more than 100,000 current and back issue comic books, including Golden Age and Silver Age, as well as paperback books, music, movies, collectibles, toys, and Magic: The Gathering cards. They also sanctioned Magic tournaments.

10. Harrison’s Comic and Collectibles, Ltd.

This Salem comic shop has walls and bins full of hundreds of comic book titles, including popular and independents, and Golden and Silver Age selections, as well as action figures, Manga, and statues. They also have branches in Danvers and Medford.
