New England Spring Flower Show

By Sonja Cohen, About.com

The New England Spring Flower Show is the largest indoor event in the region and the third largest of its kind in the world, with almost six acres of exhibits. Held annually in Boston, the show is put on by the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, and each year more than 150,000 visitors come to see the imaginative indoor garden exhibits and explore the vendor marketplace. It's also a great chance to ask experts your most difficult gardening questions, and see lectures and demonstrations on a variety of horticultural topics.

The 2008 New England Spring Flower Show: The theme of the 137th annual New England Spring Flower Show is "Rhapsody in Green," which focuses on eco-friendly gardening. The show runs from Saturday, March 8 through Sunday, March 16. It will feature 38 indoor gardens by notable New England designers (see garden exhibitor list below), as well as amateur competitions, lectures, demonstrations, 192 floral arrangement, and more than 200 vendors in the Garden Marketplace. Some 2008 Flower Show Highlights: This year exhibitors will be showcasing new techniques in eco-friendly gardening, including green roofs, rain re-use, recycling, and xeriscaping.

In addition, this year's event will feature live music performances four times each day, ranging in style from jazz combos to bluegrass fiddle.

And don't forget to bring the kids! New at the 2008 flower show is Trexploration, a children's scavenger hunt that will teach them about gardening as they experience the show.
